Lemon-lime eye catching foliage in spring, summer, fuzzy stems, spectacular fall color, and great year round texture. What could be better? Maybe a grouping of three, or a Tiger Eye Sumac paired with a few Midnight Wine Weigela, Royal Burgundy Barberry or any of the red Japanese Maples! The buds that emerge in the spring are bright red with hints of pink, orange and yellow. The stems of this sumac are maroon. All of the colors in the fall display are previewed in the buds. |

This plant is very adaptable to most soil types thriving even in clay soil. On a rainy fall day it cheers up an otherwise dismal garden. Tiger Eye grows into an upright, rounded form about 6' to 10' tall and as wide. New growth emerges chartreuse. Fall brings leaves of yellow, scarlet, and orange. Flowers are yellowish green and followed, on female plants, by hairy, dark red fruit. For the best autumn color, plant in full sun. This shrub attracts birds; is a native; has showy foliage; and showy fruit. Use in beds and borders, or for naturalizing. What is there not to like? |
